Harrison School District Two Gifted and Talented Student Blog: October GT Blog Topic

Harrison School District Two Gifted and Talented Student Blog: March GT Blog Topic:
Hello gifted students!  I am Erika Tunson and I am the new Elementary Gifted and Talented Coordinator.  I am going to be updating the blog monthly and I am anxious to get your posts!  This month I will post the topic but I would ask that you write some topics you would be interested in blogging about at the end of your post this month.  Next month I hope to use a student generated topic!
Let's get figurative!  I mean let's play with figurative language this month. When I was in 5th grade I was identified as a gifted student so I understand what it is like to be gifted in a classroom where most students are not.  Create a metaphor a simile for the following statement:  Being a gifted student is...
My example:  Being a gifted student is like being a sunny, warm day in the late fall.  It is unexpected, even unusual and everyone loves it.  They even comment on how lovely the day is.  The problem is it is uncommon and it could change and be cold and gray the next day.  Then, people are disappointed.

  1. Being gifted is like being a caged butterfly. Butterflies are beautiful and people are always surprised when they see one flying around. Butterflies can fly high, everywhere and anywhere. A caged butterfly can only fly so high and so far. Sometimes a gifted student in a classroom is like a caged butterfly. They can only go so far unless a really wonderful teacher opens the cage and lets them soar!
